This section contains a list of commonly asked questions about our services. If you have any further questions about www.indieproofing.co.uk, we will be happy to answer them.
The first step is to get in touch with us and tell us what you need. Useful details to include are your company details, the format of the files and any special requirements. Small files can usually be attached right away but if you have a lot to check we would prefer you to let us know before you send! We can then either provide a quote or request for any further details we require.
When completed, the proofread documents are emailed back to you and can simply replace the existing ones. We recommend keeping a backup copy of your original documents in case something should go wrong. We do not normally keep track of every change made but can use the "Track Changes" option in MS Word if you require this.
We can check your website in situ if you are already using it, but the easiest method is to send us copies of the website files so we can alter them directly. Please remember to include any style sheets or similar so that we can view the pages properly. Aside from anything else, this allows us to perform a proper word count for the invoice rather than including HTML tags/etc.
When completed, the proofread webpages are emailed back to you and can simply replace the existing ones. We recommend keeping a backup copy of your original website in case something should go wrong.
We charge $1 per 100 words (or part thereof) for basic proofreading and $2 per 100 words (or part thereof) for descriptive work (which may require rewriting). We will give you a quote based on the size of the task. So a document of 1000 words would cost $10 or $20, depending on the service required.
If you wish to have some text checked under one service and some under another, please make this clear in the request. This is especially important if you have all your text in one document and you may find it convenient to split such text up prior to sending it to us.
We aim to complete all requests as quickly as possible, and smaller jobs can usually be completed within a week. We will let you know when we provide a quote how long we expect it to take. If your proofing is especially urgent, please let us know - we may be able to arrange an express service. For large orders, we may need to ask for an additional fee.
On completion, and once you are satisfied with the work, we will send you an invoice email. Please watch out for overzealous spam filters! This invoice contains a PayPal link for making payment, either through your own PayPal account or by most major credit/debit cards. Please contact us if you are unable to use PayPal and we will arrange an alternative.
We can read and amend Microsoft Office documents (including the new docx format), Open Office, plain text, rich text format and most forms of HTML and equivalent - we use a plain text editor for these so formatting will not be corrupted. We can read PDF documents but cannot amend them - for these, we can list any changes to be made or provide a plain text equivalent to be reformatted by yourselves. For more unusual formats, please let us know and we will see what we can do.
